Dr. Gina Vice-Hlavacek, Psy. D
Dr. Gina Vice-Hlavacek received her MA and Doctorate of Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) from the University of Hartford in 1998 and 2004 respectively. As part of her training, she completed her predoctoral internship at the Northhampton VA in Leeds, Massachusetts in 2003 with a specific focus on PTSD and military sexual trauma. She completed her post doctoral fellow at Wheeler Clinic with a focus on Substance Abuse and Women’s trauma.
She has 20 years of experience in the treatment of substance abuse and trauma issues in general. Specifically, she has provided outpatient and intensive outpatient services to adults, adolescents, and children who had a history of family domestic violence, traumatic experience, and substance abuse. She has experience facilitating women’s trauma groups and advanced women’s trauma recovery groups at the Wheeler Clinic, and she has trained other professionals in trauma-informed treatment. She also worked as a consultant to the State of Connecticut's Department of Children and Families as a Domestic Violence Expert/Trainer.
Dr. Vice-Hlavacek has been providing individual and couple’s therapy in private practice since 2007. Her primary focus is on areas of trauma, dissociation, relationship issues, grief, depression and anxiety. She is an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitized Reprocessing) trained therapist and has been using the technique since 2013. She also has an office in Cheshire.
Dr. Vice-Hlavacek has been described by her clients’ as warm, inviting, and caring. Her approach is relational - interweaving both trauma and gender sensitive techniques - and psychodynamic as she understands individual’s struggles and challenges often originate from early life experiences and facilitate particular defense styles in relationships.
