Dr. Kevin O’Shea, Psy. D
Kevin O'Shea, Psy.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist who is employed full-time in the Young Adult Services intensive outpatient treatment program at the Institute of Living in Hartford, CT. He also provides part-time psychotherapy services at Affiliated Clinical Therapists of Middletown. He graduated from the American School of Professional Psychology in Washington, D.C. and completed his internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute of Living.
He has experience working with late adolescents, adults, and older adults in inpatient and outpatient settings. His therapeutic work involves an integration of psychodynamic case formulations with symptom-focused cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavioral therapy interventions. Through collaboration with each individual with whom he works, he seeks to promote greater insight into and awareness of interpersonal factors that maintain and exacerbate symptoms.
He has experience treating a wide array of mood disorders, anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, personality disorders, and chronic and persistent mental illness. In addition to individual therapy, couples and family therapy sessions are also used to educate significant others about psychiatric disorders and to promote a greater understanding of the factors that contribute to various behavioral manifestations of such disorders.
